Collections
12. Purchaser of the Indianapolis,
IN Ted Koch Collection, over $1 million worth of cards, everything
from Turkey Reds to 1985 Topps!
13. Purchaser
of the Moline, IL ABC Collectibles Topps and Bowman Collection.
Here the Mint Man purchased almost $750,000 worth of star cards,
1869-1985. It required an 18-foot truck to transport the collection
home!
14. Purchaser of Tampa,
FL Baseball Cards Unlimited Liquidation, over $500,000 worth of
newer single cards, sets and cases.
15. Purchaser of Hackensack,
NJ Manny's Baseball Land, over $2.5 million worth of yearbooks,
World Series and All Star Game programs in original cases. It
took 12 people and two semi-tractor trailers two days to move
the load from NJ to NY!
16. Purchaser of Red Bank,
NJ L&R Card Company. In 1983, I had to borrow $25,000 to buy
hobby pioneer Herb Ross' complete store inventory which, at the
time, was valued at about $75,000. I would imagine at today's
numbers, it would be closer to $750,000.
17. Purchaser of Chicago,
IL Roger Marth Collection. Up to 1990, this was the second largest
collection I had ever bought, paying over $300,000 for the incredible
contents of a 16-foot truck which I drove home from Chicago to
NJ.
18. Purchaser of Chicago,
IL Mike Keasler Collection. Roger Marth's close friend, Mike Keasler
decided in the spring of 1994 to part with his astounding collection
that he had compiled for almost three decades. That one too cost
me over $300,000!
19.
Purchaser of Queens, NY The Yankee Lady Collection. Yes, the Yankee
Lady claimed to own one of every NY Yankees baseball card ever
produced. And she did. Wish I had that one back today!
20.
Purchaser of the White Sulphur Springs, MT Collection. One of
the most beautiful places I've ever been to in my life, produced
a complete run of Topps and Bowman sets, 1948-68, almost totally
autographed! An outrageous assemblage which took the owner almost
30 years to complete!
21.
Purchaser of Anchorage, AK James Soucek's Collection. A most wonderful
trip to one of the most remote places in the world produced the
purchase of 17 cartons of Topps, Bowmans and Fleer sports and
non-sports sets, 1948-70. I paid the owner almost $60,000 and
woke up in the morning, stared out the window of his trailer on
the side of mountain, and actually saw a moose!
